EGDI Data Tools

Primary Data Tools

These tools offer high-level, easy and intuitive applications that

  • allow the selection and representation of the desired information in a web map viewer on the one hand, and
  • the search by writing text in a field and selecting options (services, documents, layers or databases) from a form to obtain all the resources available in EGDI restricted to a geographical area and in any EU language.

Primary Data Tools make use of the secondary ones and are recommended for all users regardless of their level of knowledge about geographic information.

Map Viewer
Powerful and easy-to-use online application for visualising and querying spatial information through interactive maps, including various tools to perform further data analysis.
Data Search
Allows users to discover and access available datasets, view their metadata and select, display and download subsets of elements from multiple datasets.

Secondary Data Tools

Secondary Data Tools are more specialized than primaries. Their use is recommended for users who need detailed information about geological data resources (called metadata), such as obtaining the date of publication, the provider’s contact, the spatial or temporal resolution, the authorized use of the data, and whether it is free or paid.

Other interesting information processed by EGDY Secondary Data Tools are:

  • what available documents are related to some geographical regions or resources,
  • what words are equivalent in different languages,
  • definitions of geological and geographical concepts,
  • how many layers are available, and what are they in the EGDI Platform.
Document repository
It allows to search for documents by looking in their metadata or content.
Map Services and Layers
List of all the map layers accessible on the on the map viewer.
Metadata Catalogue
Central access point to standardised metadata concerning digital structured geological data across Europe.
Multilingual Keyword Thesaurus
A list of words, terms or concepts, semantically related to each other, that can be used to describe the meaning or central ideas of a dataset.
Vocabulary
A list of terms, concepts or entities in the scope of a geoscientific project and how they are semantically related.
